Law firms are aplenty. So, it begs the question, "Does it matter who you hire when you need a lawyer, legal advice, or legal help?" Well, the answer to that question is a little more complicated than you might expect. Take a look.

Yes, It Does Matter

It does matter who you hire because you are not going to hire a lawyer or a firm to defend you against white-collar crime charges if the firm only handles murder and assault cases. In part, then, it matters who you hire because you have to hire the professionals that specialize in the branch of law that can best defend you and your case. You also want a lawyer with proven results because you do not want to lose, nor do you want to end up in jail if your case is a criminal one. From those standpoints, it does matter who you hire.

No, It Does Not Matter

The size of the firm really does not mean much. It just means that they have a lot of good lawyers who can help or lawyers who can step in if your lawyer happens to be out sick on an important day. You could hire a large firm, but if all you want and need is a good lawyer that gets results, you could hire a lawyer at a small law firm just as easily as you could hire a lawyer from a big law firm. Ergo, the size of the firm does not matter in terms of getting the legal help you need. 

Other Things to Weigh When Looking at This or That Law Firm

Sometimes you want a law firm with a lot of power. Small law firms generally do not have as much power and influence in the legal system as the smaller firms. For that reason, you might be tempted to hire the big firm over the little firm. If you are a corporate CEO, you definitely want a powerful team of lawyers fighting for you. If you are a small business owner being sued by a customer, a small firm has enough power to manage things for you. Small firms may not have more than ten lawyers on their team, and most small firms have less than five lawyers working in the firm. Large firms can have up to fifty lawyers working for them (or more, as evidenced by some of the largest law firms in the country).
